I am delighted that I have two paintings, “Sachuest Susurrations” and “Veins of Quartz, Sachuest Point,” in the upcoming "Small Point of Land" exhibition at the Bristol Art Museum, in Bristol, Rhode Island. This show will be a captivating collection of images associated with our proximity to Narragansett Bay.

i am very excited to be represented by Martha Corscaden's Barn Gallery in Keene Valley, New York. It’s a beautiful gallery in a barn near Putnam Camp just off Route 73. My work will be part of a group show, opening August 8th and will run through Columbus Day Weekend. I’ll have more updates as the time gets closer.

The work in this show explores the relationship of forest to non-forest: I am drawn by those intersititial places where forest shades into glade, field, or meadow; as well as those dramatic places when suddenly the woods you’ve been climbing through open up into a view of the wider world. Some people look at such a view and say “ah” or pull out a camera; I have always been compelled to draw and paint what I see. By following paths around and through woods with pencil and paint, I find the hidden order within the forest landscape. Figures embedded in the pictures act as way-finders, showing the viewer paths into the woods where they can make their own stories.
Plein air studies and drawings are the base for oil paintings finished in the studio. Painting in the studio gives me the time and space to consider the push-pull of three-dimensional reality against the picture plane to capture the truths and ambiguities of the subject.
There was a packed opening, as temperatures were up almost to twenty after a few days of hovering around zero. It is such a convivial group of interesting and talented artists. Guild members have shows year round and partner with other arts organizations in the region. It’s worth a visit, whenever you are in the North Country.
